BARONGWA: I AM THAT I AM
This series of work is comprised of two bodies of works each created when I was experiencing different stages of an awakening process. The first “Barongwa: I am that I am” is a journey in the search for a self. The “I am”.
The second “Samādhi: Dipiri Tša MaWatle” is a process of letting go of a singular self and becoming one with a collective “I”.
These are two sides of a whole. Yin and Yang. Persona and shadow self. Light and dark. Masculine and Feminine. But in our society, where many men and women live a life of quiet desperation, we are conditioned to choose one of these identities. Everything functions in tandem, and to understand that is to begin to understand the essence of duality in our lives.
