A Maasai from Northern Tanzania wearing the popular, strong and durable shúka ideal for the harsh savannah climate while Maasai who find themselves nearer to the coast will wear kikoi. His neck and arms are adorned by beadwork created by women from clay, shells, ivory and, sometimes, bone. He is never without his seme (dagger) in his leather sheath and a smaller knife for hunting or as a last resort in combat and self-defence.
